I've updated the No Country For Old Men reviews page with some reviews (many, many more to come) including one from your humble web servant- my own (I saw it last night- yay!) and our very first YKFK reader review (thanks Matt!). Why not make a cuppa, pop over there and have a read?

In what has to be one of the most interesting photo shoots I think I've ever seen the New York Times has comissioned a shoot involving past Coen alumni including Javier Bardem, Kelly MacDonald, Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore, Jon Polito, Holly Hunter, Tara Reid, Sam Elliot, Steve Buscemi and John Turturro in a series of strange scenes. I think it's best if you just look for yourself. Below is the accompanying text.

At first glance, “No Country,” which is a kind of modern western with almost mythological themes set against the landscape of Texas, would seem to be a surprising fit with the Coens, who are known for dark, almost surrealistic comedies like the Oscar-winning “Fargo,” the Hollywood noir “Barton Fink” and their ode to stoner iconoclasm, “The Big Lebowski.” But “No Country,” like their other movies, allowed them to create unique characters and simultaneously twist a genre. From the start of their career, with the film “Blood Simple” in 1984, the Coens have consistently reinvented conventional types of cinema by tweaking and reimagining instantly recognizable archetypes. In “No Country,” Javier Bardem plays an unstoppable, coldblooded killer with an existential streak. Though he is not described this way in McCarthy’s book, the Coens pictured him with a Prince Valiant haircut and a fastidious style of dress — a potentially stock cinematic character transformed into a new western classic. “He’s like the man who fell to earth,” Joel suggested. “He’s the thing that doesn’t grow out of that landscape.”

The West was built on transplants, on men and women who sought to redefine themselves in a land of opportunity. Since many of their movies are set in that part of America, the Coen brothers have observed and then reimagined many of those strivers, weirdos, beauties, believers and would-be prophets. From Holly Hunter’s baby-nabbing cop in “Raising Arizona” to Sam Elliott’s philosophical cowboy in “The Big Lebowski,” the Coens have created, again and again, instantly iconic creatures of the West. In this portfolio, photographed by Finlay MacKay, we sought to further the adventures of those Coen-devised personalities.

“We still want to make a real period western,” Joel said. “With no cars and in black and white. But it might be a little narrow.” Ethan nodded. “ ‘No Country’ was kind of like a genre thing, but in a genre thing the characters end up differently,” he said. “ ‘No Country’ is perverse. And we always like something perverse.”

The No Country For Old Men website has been updated. Each section is preceded by an animated clip from the film and has its own looping music. There are wallpapers, AIM icons and a screen saver (coming soon), lots of information on the cast, the movie and the book, an image gallery and, of course, the three excellent trailers.

Wallpaper 3 is particularly gorgeous and shows, once again, how good the Coens and Roger Deakins are when working together. Shame Deakins is not working on Burn After Reading too, which is the first Coen brothers movie to be without him since Barton Fink back in 1991.

In addition I have cheekily used the footer from the wallpapers and used them to concoct 5 of my own desktop wallpapers. You can see them in the No Country Multimedia page (at the bottom). I particularly like this one.

Looks like A Serious Man is destined to be the Coens follow up to Burn After Reading, My Way news has this;

Home Again: Coens Filming in Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Will the Coen brothers ever return to their native Minnesota to film another movie? Yeah sure, you betcha! Joel and Ethan Coen haven't made a movie in Minnesota since their 1996 Oscar-winning "Fargo," but come March they plan to roll cameras for "A Serious Man," set in their home town of St. Louis Park, a Minneapolis suburb.

The brothers helped scout locations this summer, said Lucinda Winter, executive director of the Minnesota Film and TV Board.

"They looked in Richfield, Brooklyn Center, maybe Hopkins - neighborhoods that would match the one they grew up in," she said.

The film is about a Jewish college professor during the 1960s. According to the online entertainment journal FilmJerk.com, the main character is bedeviled by children who lift his wallet, a wife who wants a divorce, an intense grad student and a hot neighbor who sunbathes in the nude. With all of that, "he starts to question the value of life."

It's not autobiographical but is based on the Coen brothers' experiences here, said Bob Graf, one of the film's executive producers and also a native Minnesotan.

Graf said it's important to capture the uniqueness of Twin Cities suburbs.

"It's just plain different," Graf said Friday from New York.

  Hoorah! Calling all Coen fans in the UK! How would you like to see No Country For Old Men in a UK cinema THIS year? How about NOVEMBER? Well thank goodness for the Leeds International Film Festival then! Never mind waiting till its January/February release you can see it on the 15th or 17th of November! Go ahead- book tickets now while there still are some! I did, and I cannot wait! I'm in Liverpool so it ain't even that far away! Perfect!

I'm sure most of you will have read by now about George Clooney's iddy biddy accident. He and his current squeeze, Sarah Larson, came off their motorbike. Clooney has bust a rib and Larson a foot. They're fine though and the injury will not hold up shooting of Burn After Reading.

According to this month's Empire magazine the UK release date of No Country For Old Men is January 18th NOT the previously suggested February. So that's a bit better then ain't it? Now only 3 months behind you lucky Americans!

The cover of the magazine had me very, VERY excited when it plopped through my door this morning. Emblazoned on the front - "The new Fargo- The Coens reboot with No Country For Old Men" I was expecting a good sized article but, alas, just the one page (two if you count the full page pic of Bardem's Chigurh.

Some information about shooting locations for Burn After Reading. From Wikipedia - "Clooney, Pitt and Malcovitch have been filming recently in the Mamaroneck area, a susburn of NYC. A scene is being filmed today (9-20-07) @ 78th St and Broadway NYC". And this interesting article too.

Charles Durning will need to introduction to anyone reading this site I'm sure. The fine character actor who brought us Wareing Hudsucker (The Hudsucker Proxy) and Pappy O'Daniel (O Brother, Where Art Thou?) is to be honoured with a lifetime achievement award by the Screen Actors Guild. He's 84 years old now and has led quite a life which would, one day, make a fascinating biopic. He served his country WWII including the Normandy landings on Omaha beach which was, of course, made famous by Speilberg's Saving Private Ryan and was also the sole survivor of the battle of Malmedy in Belgium. He received three Purple Hearts and a Silver Star for bravery. Hats off to the man and I hope he has many more memorable roles in him.

John Turturro has been talking about a possible Big Lebowski Jesus Quintana spin off movie again. In an interview with Gothamist.com he brought it up, pertinent parts below but you can read the whole thing here.

Back on the subject of cult classics, The Big Lebowski has gone on to become one. Yeah, look at that. Didn’t do great here originally but now it has.

Were you surprised by the lukewarm response the film received when it came out? No, wasn’t surprised; I didn’t realize how funny it was.

When I first saw it in the theater I thought, “That was interesting.” But then over repeated viewings it’s just gotten better and better for me. One of my favorite films. It’s really, really, really – It’s really, really good. It’s really, really good! It’s hilarious. Maybe someday we’ll do a little spin-off of it. We’ve talked about it. But we’ll see.

Is there any chance of that? I want to make a Jesus film but Joel and Ethan… We’ve got to sit down. Maybe next year I’ll get them to write it. We’ll see.

Was that your idea to lick the bowling ball? A lot of those ideas were mine, yeah. But Joel and Ethan and I kind of share the same sensibility. And that’s why they were so helpful on my film, editing it. Because I don’t have to explain things to them. They understand. And they know how to make it better.

A couple of updates today but first, and best, thing's first- the official No Country For Old Man site has updated with a new "red band" trailer. Red band basically means it starts with a red screen instead of the familiar green, it's Restricted, it's for adults, it has some gore in it. It almost pitches it as a chase movie which, to an extent, it is. Fucking amazing! I really cannot wait to see this movie!!!

The French DVD of Paris Je Taime is out (alas no English subtitles) and awesome You Know, For Kids! reader "Junior" has taken the time to email in a little write up and also some screen grabs from the making of documentary. Below is his write up verbatim;

"The Coen Brothers "making of" is VERY revealing (more than any other Coen
DVD so far) just short of a step by step process on the shooting of the
short, as the brothers explain why they made certain choices--even why they
chose to shoot in a subway--the initial story was going to be a cowboy from
Texas who visits Paris for the first time but then they thought it might
rain during shooting and they only had 2 or 3 days to film hence they
thought up the "subway" story. They thought it was great that the only parts
of Paris that you see beyond the subway is in the Tour Guide Book that
Buscemi has.

We even see the stunt reherasals and Joel & Ethan making decisions on the
set as they shoot the short. I have never seen them as more "human" than in
this documentary. They laugh, get excited and you see how they figure
things out as they shoot--of course this is easier because they have
pre-planned every detail in advance.

Steve Buscemi is also interviewed. One funny quote is when Joel Coen says
he and Ethan were discussing working with Steve Buscemi and how he gets
beaten up or killed when he appears in their films. They also said the
older he gets, the more Buscemi looks like Buster Keaton to them.

They also interview the cinematagrpher, Bruno Delbonnel (who shot Amelie, A
Very Long Engageent & Jean-Pierre Jeunet short films--ironic because Jeunet
is a huge Coen fan and even "borrowed" a shot from the Coen's Barton Fink
for his film Delicatessen--but I digress). I thought I had recognized some
of the tricky camera moves, the look of the film, etc--it's very Amelie!

Other crew members and the actors are interviewed as well but those,
including Bruno's are all in French and w/o subtitles so I'll have to wait
until a proper subtitled version comes out.

One thing that I didn't need to understand French to learn is when everyone
comments in French and with hand gestures how Joel and Ethan are like "one'
person.

Joel comments that they have the ability to each go off and do different
things while filming but that doesn't necessarily translate as more
efficiency--it's just easier on them. Ethan adds, they both wear different
underwear, LOL!

Joel goes on to say in the U.S. That they have worked with the same crew for
20 years but for this they worked with all new people and they had no idea
what they were getting into but everything was so calm and smooth. Joel
says this is really unusual because Ethan is a real chair thrower on the set
and like to yell at people because of a lack of sleep and that he, Joel must
have been drugged before making this movie because he was not aware of any
problems this time--wink, wink. They actually credit Bruno DelBonnel and
the French crew with making it such an easy and enjoyable shoot. You get a
sense from all the French crew and Actors that they are the biggest Coen
Brothers fans."

  The readers of broadsheets the Guardian and the Observer here in the UK have been polled to determine which movies they feel are the funniest of all time. Monty Python's hilarious The Life of Brian won out with Airplane! at number two, but our Coens had TWO entries in there. With a nose-bleed at the lofty height of number 7 is The Big Lebowski and at number 38 is Raising Arizona. The original The Ladykillers is in at number 30. Check out the full list and I'm sure you'll agree it's the most honest of this kind of thing I've seen in a long time.

Now that the post-Cannes dust has settled and No Country For Old Men has finally started to feel like a real movie, what better way to cement that notion that the release of its trailer? It contains many new shots and focuses mainly on Javier Bardem's Chigurh. It also confirms the MPAA's R rating which means the story has not been compromised to achieve a lower rating.

No Cannes glory for the Coens this year. No Country For Old Men was in competition but did not win. The Palme d'Or went to Romanian abortion movie 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days. Julian Schnabel won the best director award for The Diving Bell and the Butterfly.

Cack! Disappointing AND we have to wait months to see the movie! Boo! Oh and if anyone responsible for the official Cannes Film Festival website is reading- you should be ashamed of yourself, the site is terrible.

YAY! Some clips of No Country For Old Men!!! Packaged along with some brief interview clips with Joel and Ethan. AWESOME!

The first clip shows Tommy Lee Jones' Sheriff Bell surveying the scene of a drug deal gone bad. The second, the menacing Chigurh (Javier Bardem) on the phone to Moss (Josh Brolin). The third section shows Moss at home with his girlfriend Carla Jean (Scottish actress Kelly MacDonald) and the final one has Chirurh at his most menacing. I think "what's the most you ever lost on a coin toss" will become much quoted. Check them out using the links on the right.

WOW! Guess what I was emailed today? You'll never guess so I'm just gonna tell ya- the script for Burn After Reading! The Coen's ain't even started shooting this yet, hell it's still casting, and now we Coen nerds have the script. Oh happy days! I haven't even read it myself yet I was so keen to share it with you all.

Here's a synopsis of the Coen's section of Paris Je T'aime...

"5. Tuileries by Joel and Ethan Coen- Probably the funniest entry of the bunch. I mean, from the moment Steve Buscemi turns his head toward the camera, you can tell this one is a lighthearted confection. Buscemi is silent all the way through. He's on the Metro, reading a tourist book of phrases and such, when he reads that under no circumstance should he make eye contact with anyone. Of course he locks eyes with a couple (Julie Bataille and Axel Kiener) who are making out across the tracks. The boyfriend takes offense and starts yelling at Buscemi, 'what the fuck are you looking at.' This gets the girl mad and she storms over to Buscemi's side to make out with him and get her boyfriend jealous. The kicker is that she has a lip growth that may or may not be herpes. Not surprising, considering Paris is the city for lovers of love. Eventually the boyfriend comes over to administer a Parisian beating, which is to say, not much of a beating at all. Tony Blundetto would've whacked this punk. All in all, an entertaining five minutes."

ORIGIN French, literally ‘Tile works,’ so named because the palace was built on the site of an ancient tile works.

  Things are hotting up for Burn After Reading. The frankly awesome John Malkovich has joined George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Frances McDormand in the already brilliant cast. He will play the main part in the movie of a CIA agent who loses a disc containing sensitive information. This is getting more and more interesting every day! Malkovich, Malkovich.

As if all this wasn't enough, there's some details on the Coen's follow up to Burn After Reading, A Serious Man courtesy of JoBlo.com...

"Last week when we first told you about the Coen brothers' next film A SERIOUS MAN, we had no details to share. What is this mystery film that was only described as a dark comedy? We knew nothing then but today, we've got some exclusive word on the flick. JoBlo spies are reporting that while filming on A SERIOUS MAN isn't set to begin until after BURN AFTER READING wraps (the next Coen film with George Clooney and Brad Pitt starring), one particular scene is being shot this month. The Coens are assembling for only a few days to shoot a scene that takes place in early 20th century Poland and is entirely in Yiddish. Here's what we now about the scene: A man named Velvel is walking home and meets a stranger he soon recognizes to be a prominent rabbi. Velvel invites the man back to his home for dinner but when they arrive, his wife believes the Rabbi to be a Dybbuk (which Wikipedia tells me is a "malicious possessing spirit"). Velvel is understandly confused and the Rabbi seems amused by the claims but the wife insists the real Rabbi died three years prior. Desperate to save her family, Velvel's wife resorts to drastic measures, much to the horror of her husband. Yikes, sounds pretty messed up! So Coen brothers movies are like buses. You wait for ages and then, bam, three come at once!

Hot on the heels of the news regarding Burn After Reading comes news of the Coen's 14th movie- A Serious Man. Nothing is know about it as yet other than it is "a dark comedy in the vein of Fargo" which cannot be a bad thing.

Next up is the fact that No Country For Old Men is showing in competition at this year's Cannes Film Festival. This is truly exciting news as the Coens have a bit of a love affiar with Cannes over the years. It'll be the first time the movie is seen anywhere. From the information I found at the Cannes site I can also tell you that the movie is 2 hours and 2 minutes in length.

Lots of people got in touch to point me in the direction of a featurette over at Apple's site. The Coens have been using Apple's editing software, Final Cut Pro, for some time now and have filmed a short interview for Apple. It mainly concentrates on the use of colour in O Brother, Where Art Thou? but does contain shots from No Country For Old Men of Moss being persued by a truck (I'm doubtful that the shots of a city and taxi are from the movie but you never know). Very exciting indeed- the first footage from the next Coen movie!!! Go check it out - link on the right>

Things are certainly hotting up on Planet Coen, news now of the next movie, their 13th, Burn After Reading. This one has been mentioned once of twice before (check out the Future Projects section) but it looks like a definite goer now that BOTH George Clooney and Brad Pitt are set to star.

I love the interaction between Pitt and Clooney and it'll be nice to see Pitt finally break his Coen cherry after the aborted To The White Sea. Bring it on!

I'm sure some of you are very excited about the forthcoming Apple iPhone (personally I wish it had a 60 or 80 gig harddrive- then I'd get one), well the eagle-eyed and stay-up-late amongst you might have noticed that Apple had an ad for its new wonder gizmo running during the Oscars on Sunday night. 'So what?' I hear you cry, well it featured many, many clips from movies of people answering the phone with a simple, "hello." Two of said clips were from two of the Coen brothers' finest movies, Fargo and The Big Lebowski. Check it out- link on right.

Most of you will be aware of Joel Coen's "acting" history, well you can use the link on the right to see him and Sam Raimi "acting" in the 80's John Landis comedy Spies Like Us. It amounts to about 10 seconds of screen time but is enough for us to appreciate Joel's move to behind the camera ;-)

That nice man Carter Burwell is at it again. He's giving us his fabulous music for free! YAY! This time though it is of particular interest as he's seen fit to bestow us with two tracks from soundtrack for the forthcoming No Country For Old Men. Also on the site is a little information about the direction the music is taking, with Burwell commenting that it is the quietest film he's worked on.

Shock of shocks- two updates in ONE day!

The Coen brothers are among many "top directors" who are each creating one of 35 three minute films on the subject of going to the cinema. They are being made to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival. Let's hope we get to see them on DVD one day and also that the Coen's latest No Country For Old Men is in competition this year.

Anna Nicole Smith has passed away at the age of 39. She had collapsed and was found unresponsive in a Florida hotel her lawyer said. No cause of death has been announced.

Smith had a small part as Buzz the elevator boy's girlfriend in The Hudsucker Proxy. RIP.

Another image from the forthcoming No Country For Old Men has emerged. Via Carter Burwell's website comes THIS bizarre, little image of Javier Bardem as the nefarious, Chigurh. This also doubles as a wee news snippet, Burwell is currenlty writing the score for the film and it is due to begin recording in February. Sweet!

The LA Times and JoBlo have the same story, it seems Ethan is going it alone. He and his wife, editor Tricia Cooke, have penned what is billed as a "lesbian, road-trip, action, sex comedy" called Drive-Away Dykes to be directed by Allison Anders. I'll hand over to The LA Times for the synopsis...

"When Marion, a skirt-chasing party girl, gets kicked out after her cop girlfriend finds her in bed with another woman, she convinces her buttoned-down friend Jamie to let her come along on a get-away-for-a-few-days drive-away car assignment from Philadelphia to Miami. Packed along for the ride are Jamie's crush on Marion, Marion's unrelenting desire to cruise every lesbian bar on the eastern seaboard, and — since this is Coen territory — a severed head in a hatbox, a mystery briefcase full of plaster phalluses, a mélange of angry pursuers, an evil senator, a bitter ex-girlfriend and loads of hot boyless sex."

Coen says, "The sensibility is exploitive but innocent. We were both taken with the title and, as with old exploitation films, it all derived from that. We figured, 'All right, what kind of movie has this title?' "

JoBlo questions if this could be the greatest movie ever and mentions an unofficial website which appears not to work anymore. Perhaps it has been taken down but which apparently featured story boards and character information. If anyone managed to see/save any of this info I'd love to hear about it.

  Apparenlty Joel Coen and his wife Frances McDormand escaped a fire on Wednesday!!! This from IMDB news...

"Actor Jake Gyllenhaal and his sister Maggie Gyllenhaal escaped without injury after being caught up in a fire early on Wednesday at a California inn. The two were staying at Manka's Inverness Lodge in Marin County for Christmas when a tree fell on the structure, sparking the fire. According to Marin County Fire Department Battlion Chief Mike Giannini, "From my perspective, it looks like a total loss of the main lodge and the restaurant." Neighbor Judy Prokupek, who witnessed the devastation, said guests were seen running out of the inn at around 2:43 am, adding, "They weren't dressed to come out. It was early." Chef and co-owner Daniel Delong said the Brokeback Mountain star assisted with the recovery efforts saying, "Jake was helping me pull things out of the fire." Other well-known guests at the inn were Fargo star Frances McDormand and her husband Joel Coen. No injuries were reported."

Wonder if it would have been so widely reported had the young and pretty Gyllenhaals not been there...

  So Nintendo have finally released their much anticipated new console, the Wii, in America at least. Us Europeans have to wait just over a week more and I, for one, cannot wait!!! Anyway, this video game related post DOES have some Coen relevance. Honest it does. The Wii allows you to create an avatar which will be used in various games, these are called Miis. Anyhoo, some clever sod has editied a bunch of these together over a scene from The Big Lebowski to good effect. Check it out HERE!

  Looks like "BURN AFTER READING" will be the Coen's follow up to the forthcoming No Country For Old Men. Focusing on a member of the CIA who pens a book about his top secret missions then loses a CD with it on and featuring George Clooney as the hitman on his tail this semi-comic movie sees the Coens and Clooney team up for a third time. This is the second time this movie has been mentioned now, check the Future Projects secion for more details. Here's hoping it's as great as O Brother, Where Art Thou?

  Just a quick note to say that I have done quite a bit of behind the scenes maintenance on the site so that No Country For Old men is now fully intergrated. The movie now appears in the drop-down menus and has it's own main page, multimedia page and review page though, obviously, there aren't any reviews yet. Also No Country images will now start appearing as random images at the top of relevant pages.

Here's hoping for more information over the coming weeks to flesh out these sections.

I'm not ashamed to say that I stole these images from an article on the New York Times website which you can read by following the link on the right, however I have added the pertinent parts below.

UNTIL six months ago W. E. Love, also known as Chip, had not particularly intended to carry on his family’s cinematic legacy. Then Joel and Ethan Coen came to town.

The Coens — the writing and directing team behind “Fargo,” “The Big Lebowski” and “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” — visited Marfa last March, as they searched for ranch land on which to film their latest project, an adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s 2005 novel “No Country for Old Men.” Set in the late 1970’s in West Texas, the story is an ultraviolent neo-western about an antelope hunter, Llewelyn Moss (played by Josh Brolin), who stumbles across $2 million in a drug deal gone awry. Moss takes off with the money, prompting a chase up and down the Mexican border, as a psychopathic hit man (Javier Bardem) follows him, leaving a slew of bodies in his wake. On their trails is the aging local sheriff (Tommy Lee Jones).

The president of Marfa’s only bank, Mr. Love also owns a cattle ranch and gave the Coens a tour of his property when they scouted locations last spring. As the filmmakers and Mr. Love sat on his back porch talking, Joel Coen asked if Mr. Love would be interested in playing a small role in the movie.

“He said, ‘It’s pretty easy — it’ll just take a couple of days,’ ” Mr. Love recalled recently. “ ‘But there’s two bad things: You have to fall down, and you get killed.’ ” (The part Mr. Coen envisioned for Mr. Love was one of the hit man’s victims, who comes to a grotesquely bloody end.) Mr. Love warned the Coens that he wasn’t an actor: the only time he’d performed was in a high school production of “The Wizard of Oz.” “They said, ‘Perfect!’ ” he recalled. “I’m kind of bashful, but I thought it’d be a real goof.”

So on the afternoon of May 24, Mr. Love stood on a desolate desert highway west of town, surrounded by cattle ranches peppered with cactuses and jackrabbits, and, in front of a collection of cameras and crew, was shot in the head with a cattle stun gun by Mr. Bardem. Dying on camera was harder than he expected, he said, and he was disheartened by the number of takes the directors called for. “I wanted to do well for those guys because they were so nice,” he said. “I felt a huge responsibility not to stink.”

The producers of the film said the presence of two (the other being Paul Thomas Anderson's There Will Be Blood) major projects, bankrolled by the same studio, Paramount Vantage (with Miramax), and filmed in the same tiny town, was just a coincidence.

“In a lot of ways movies are run as separate companies,” said Robert Graf, the producer of “No Country for Old Men.” That both movies would be in Marfa simultaneously, he said, “was one of those things that people just sort of found out. It dawned on us slowly.”

While the landscape was the main draw for both productions, the town of Marfa was a factor too. An eccentric, fiercely independent place that’s become a haven for artists and art tourists, Marfa has seen an upsurge in galleries, boutique hotels and print coverage in the last 10 years. The Coens became enamored with Marfa, “as a lot of people are,” Mr. Graf said. “There are a lot of really interesting and fun people in Marfa.”

Apart from a handful of scenes that used locals’ cars as background vehicles, Mr. Love was the only Marfan to appear in the Coens’ film.

  More casting news for No Country For Old Men. Joining Tommy Lee Jones, Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin in the cast will be Woody Harrelson, Stephen Root and Tim Blake Nelson. Both Rooth and Nelson have worked with the Coen brothers before on Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? where they played the blind radio station manager and Delman respectively.

  There appears to be some legal in-fighting going on between the producers of Paris Je T'aime, the movie of 20 shorts by 20 different directors with one segment being directed by the Coen brothers. It seems that one producer wants to drop two of the shorts (thankfully NOT the Coen one) while the other wants to keep all 20 intact. You can read more by clicking the link on the right.

  So far as I am aware these are the first images from Paris Je T'aime the forthcoming collaborative movie directed by 20 different directors, the Coens being responsible for the first part ("1st arrondissement"- which means 1st street) starring Steve Buscemi.   Some more casting news for what now is surely the Coen's next, No Country For Old Men. Josh Brolin has, evidently, joined Tommy Lee Jones and Javier Bardem in the cast. From Empire- "Brolin will play the man who kicks the plot into gear – a Vietnam vet who discovers a bundle of cash he finds at the site of a drug deal gone wonky." I can't wait for this one!!!

  Jesus Quintanta/Bernie Bernbaum/Barton Fink himself, John Turturro, has, as I'm sure you're aware by now, directed his third movie, Romance & Cigarettes which is executive produced by the Coen brothers. You can read an interview he did at the NFT in London at the link on the right. There are a few mentions of the Coen brothers, such as the fact that it was their idea for Turturro to cast James Gandolfini in the movie..
