Thanks to YKFK reading, moviemaker, who let me know, you can watch a short making of clip from the Coen brothers-directed TV ad from the previous post.

It seems there is a campaign going on in the US to educate the populace to the fact that “in reality there is no such thing as clean coal”. The campaign is called This Is Reality and who better to make the campaign’s TV ad than Joel and Ethan Coen? It is embedded below for your viewing pleasure…

Thanks (again!) to the wondeful Bunnie Lebowski for sending this in!

Wow! Not content with giving Clint Eastwood stick for apparently omitting African American soldiers from his Flags of Our Fathers movie but he also thinks the Coen’s are a little cavalier with their attitude to life and mortality. Said he, “I always treat life and death with respect, but most people don’t… Look, I love the Coen brothers; we all studied at NYU. But they treat life like a joke. Ha ha ha. A joke. It’s like, ‘Look how they killed that guy! Look how blood squirts out the side of his head!’ I see things different than that.”

Spike Lee

Maybe if he stopped treating life so seriously he’d get back to making good movies?

That’s right, you read it correctly. Would you like to study the filmic works of our favourite movie making siblings? Well now you CAN! Click here to ping your browser on over to the Sydney Uni website and fill your boots up.

Check this out. A movie mashup condensing the Coen’s entire filmography into seven and a half minutes.

Wins for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor (Javier Bardem) and Best Adapted Screenplay!!! A truly wonderful and deserved end to awards season.

In one night Joel and Ethan walked away with more Oscars than the Academy have deemed worthy to lavish on their presented, Martin Scorsese, which is just not right is it?

I am so happy that this movie has garnered so many awards and particularly the ones last night, here’s hoping the win gives the Coens the clout to be able to raise the money to make To The White Sea which I would really, really love to see made one day.

I’m gutted for Roger Deakins who has been doing incredible work for years and despite many nominations throughout his career for Best Cinematography, indeed he was up for an award TWICE this year, he still cannot bag himself a golden baldie!!!

Here are some pictures from the show;

Matthew emailed in a link to an interesting, little interview with the Coens. You can read it here.

You can read many, many, many interviews with the Coens and other members of the cast and crew of No Country For Old Men by following links from the Miramax site above. Too many for me to list here.

No Country For Old Men producer Scott Rudin was interviewed by the Guardian newspaper here in the UK on February the 8th and dropped this little nugget of information; apparenlty “He has already started working on the next Coen brothers film, an adaptation of The Yiddish Policemen’s Union by Michael Chabon.” Interesting? Anyone read it? I’m gonna!

Nate, over at Chabon website, sugarbombs.com, has had it personally confirmed by Chabon himself so it must be legit information!

Thanks also to Jonathan for mailing in with the link..

No Country For Old Men keeps on racking up awards! At last night’s BAFTAs Joel and Ethan won Best Director, Javier Bardem won Best Supporting Actor and, quite rightly, Roger Deakins won for Best Cinematorgraphy. 3 wins out of 9 is alright I guess but it was beaten the Best Picture by Atonement again! GAH!

Over on the BAFTA site you can watch a 25 minute interview with our favourite siblings chatting to Mark Kemode about their life in movies. Apparenlty it took place on 13th December! I wish I’d known!!! It’s not particulary illuminating but it’s always nice to hear them chat and giggle isn’t it? You can also see a few pics from the BAFTA in the multimedia section, strangely none have Ethan in them so he must have been unable to attend.

Tonight’s edition of the BBC’s Mastermind was contested by a dude called Chris Jones whose specialist subject was The Coen Brother’s Films. I tuned in half way in and missed his 2 minutes but hopefully the episode will show up on the BBC’s i-player. You can do a short (and dead easy) true of false quiz here.
