YAY! Some clips of No Country For Old Men!!! Packaged along with some brief interview clips with Joel and Ethan. AWESOME!

The first clip shows Tommy Lee Jones’ Sheriff Bell surveying the scene of a drug deal gone bad. The second, the menacing Chigurh (Javier Bardem) on the phone to Moss (Josh Brolin). The third section shows Moss at home with his girlfriend Carla Jean (Scottish actress Kelly MacDonald) and the final one has Chirurh at his most menacing. I think “what’s the most you ever lost on a coin toss” will become much quoted. Check them out using the links on the right.

Behind the Coens during their bits is the poster for the movie too, I can’t wait for a hi-res version of that to show up!

Lots of people got in touch to point me in the direction of a featurette over at Apple’s site. The Coens have been using Apple’s editing software, Final Cut Pro, for some time now and have filmed a short interview for Apple. It mainly concentrates on the use of colour in O Brother, Where Art Thou? but does contain shots from No Country For Old Men of Moss being persued by a truck (I’m doubtful that the shots of a city and taxi are from the movie but you never know). Very exciting indeed- the first footage from the next Coen movie!!! Go check it out – Apple Final Cut Coen interview

Thanks; Red, John, Doug, Curt, Ramesh, Armon and Ricky (hope I haven’t missed anyone).

YouTube, you gotta love it! Most of you will be aware of Joel Coen’s “acting” history, well you can use the link on the right to see him and Sam Raimi “acting” in the 80’s John Landis comedy Spies Like Us. It amounts to about 10 seconds of screen time but is enough for us to appreciate Joel’s move to behind the camera ;-)

Thanks to Stephen Glitheroe for digging it up!

The Coen brothers are among many “top directors” who are each creating one of 35 three minute films on the subject of going to the cinema. They are being made to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival. Let’s hope we get to see them on DVD one day and also that the Coen’s latest No Country For Old Men is in competition this year.

Check this out. An awesome 3 minute montage of iconic Coen moments.

Thanks to Stephen Glitheroe for the tip off.

Jesus Quintanta/Bernie Bernbaum/Barton Fink himself, John Turturro, has, as I’m sure you’re aware by now, directed his third movie, Romance & Cigarettes which is executive produced by the Coen brothers. You can read an interview he did at the NFT in London at the link on the right. There are a few mentions of the Coen brothers, such as the fact that it was their idea for Turturro to cast James Gandolfini in the movie..

You know how sometimes you’re sent a link which leads to another link, then another and another? Well, I happened across the website of photographer, Kevin Westenberg in this manner. Imagine my surprise then when I found that he had photographed the Coen brothers. Hopefully he won’t mind me sticking the piccies up here for you guys to see… IMAGE ONE IMAGE TWO There’s also one of Joel’s wife Frances McDormand.

A slow, slow news time so I thought I’d mention that in, yet another, poll in Empire magazine, this time “the 200 things that rocked Empire’s world” in it’s 16 year (200 issue) life, the Coen brothers made it in at the dizzying height of number 7!

Anyone reading this on a Mac might be interested to know that an artist by the name of AurĂ©lien Le Roux has created sytlised icons of movie directors in what he calls his Masters of Cinema series. Part 4 of said series contains the Coen brothers. I don’t have a Mac so I can’t use them but for those who can follow the link on the right. If, like me you have only a PC here’s the Coen icon…

I’m a bit late on this one but I only found out today (thanks Joseph), but the Coen brothers made an appearance at the Soho Apple Store in New York on Tuesday 10th May (yeah, I know) to discuss their usage of Apple’s Final Cut Pro to edit both Intolerable Cruelty and The Ladykillers. You can also read a great article about the Coen brother’s use of said software HERE and see a (dodgy) photo from the event HERE. Thanks to Joseph Kinney for the heads-up.
