I have popped links to Carter Burwell’s site, up many times in the past and here’s another. Burwell has launched what he’s calling Radio Burwell on the site which continually cycles through lots of his amazing movie music including a lot of Coen brothers stuff (including parts from Sawbones). Check it out here.

Also while on the site, I was delighted to learn that Burwell is scoring Spike Jonze’s forthcoming Where The Wild Things Are, an adaptation of one of my favourite childhood books, written and illustrated by Maurice Sendak. You can watch the spectacular looking trailer here (although it has no music by Burwell but rather the track, Wake Up, by the most excellent Arcade Fire). Cannot wait!

Thanks to long time YKFK reader Joe for letting me know.

Wall-E? Ain’t that like a kid’s sci-fi film from Pixar? Why am I reading about it here on You Know, For Kids!? I hear you ask. Well, my excitement for this movie just got turned up from 10 to 11! The frankly awesome (that is no bias at all- it’s just plain fact) Roger Deakins, long-time Coen conspirator, has worked on Wall-E in the capacity of Visual Consultant. They were looking for a live action cinematographer to help with the look of the movie and who better to choose than the best? You can watch a little making of featurette type thing here which includes some snippets of Deakins in action.

Terrific stuff. I cannot wait for this movie. Everything I’ve seen so far makes me think it could well be the best Pixar movie yet. Wall-E as a character is amazing. He’s just a metal box with two cameras for eyes and the geniuses at Pixar have managed to bestow him with such an expressive and emotional face. I don’t think many of us will get through the film without, you know, ”getting something in our eyes”.
