This months Empire magazine has a 13 page article about the Coen brothers movies called, The Complete Coens. There’s a two page interview with our favourite siblings about No Country For Old Men and a page dedicated to each movie (except the last four which get half a page each). In addition there’s a section about the three forthcoming movies, Burn After Reading, A Serious Man and Hail Caesar. Looks like A Serious Man is destined to be the Coens follow up to Burn After Reading, My Way news has this;

Home Again: Coens Filming in Minnesota

Sep 29, 3:44 PM (ET)

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Will the Coen brothers ever return to their native Minnesota to film another movie? Yeah sure, you betcha! Joel and Ethan Coen haven’t made a movie in Minnesota since their 1996 Oscar-winning “Fargo,” but come March they plan to roll cameras for “A Serious Man,” set in their home town of St. Louis Park, a Minneapolis suburb.

The brothers helped scout locations this summer, said Lucinda Winter, executive director of the Minnesota Film and TV Board.

“They looked in Richfield, Brooklyn Center, maybe Hopkins – neighborhoods that would match the one they grew up in,” she said.

The film is about a Jewish college professor during the 1960s. According to the online entertainment journal FilmJerk.com, the main character is bedeviled by children who lift his wallet, a wife who wants a divorce, an intense grad student and a hot neighbor who sunbathes in the nude. With all of that, “he starts to question the value of life.”

It’s not autobiographical but is based on the Coen brothers’ experiences here, said Bob Graf, one of the film’s executive producers and also a native Minnesotan.

Graf said it’s important to capture the uniqueness of Twin Cities suburbs.

“It’s just plain different,” Graf said Friday from New York.

Thanks to Juan on the brand new forum for the news. Also the new forum’s debut post, may there be many more.

As if all this wasn’t enough, there’s some details on the Coen’s follow up to Burn After Reading, A Serious Man courtesy of JoBlo.com…

“Last week when we first told you about the Coen brothers’ next film A SERIOUS MAN, we had no details to share. What is this mystery film that was only described as a dark comedy? We knew nothing then but today, we’ve got some exclusive word on the flick. JoBlo spies are reporting that while filming on A SERIOUS MAN isn’t set to begin until after BURN AFTER READING wraps (the next Coen film with George Clooney and Brad Pitt starring), one particular scene is being shot this month. The Coens are assembling for only a few days to shoot a scene that takes place in early 20th century Poland and is entirely in Yiddish. Here’s what we now about the scene: A man named Velvel is walking home and meets a stranger he soon recognizes to be a prominent rabbi. Velvel invites the man back to his home for dinner but when they arrive, his wife believes the Rabbi to be a Dybbuk (which Wikipedia tells me is a “malicious possessing spirit”). Velvel is understandly confused and the Rabbi seems amused by the claims but the wife insists the real Rabbi died three years prior. Desperate to save her family, Velvel’s wife resorts to drastic measures, much to the horror of her husband. Yikes, sounds pretty messed up! Only the Coens could turn this around and make it somehow comedic. Of course this is just one scene and it’s still unclear how it fits into the rest of the production. Stay tuned for more on this as word leaks out.” – JoBlo

Hmmm, why are they shooting a scene this month? Does one of the characters have to alter their appearance? Weight maybe? Grow a beard? Hmmm…

So Coen brothers movies are like buses. You wait for ages and then, bam, three come at once!

Hot on the heels of the news regarding Burn After Reading comes news of the Coen’s 14th movie- A Serious Man. Nothing is know about it as yet other than it is “a dark comedy in the vein of Fargo” which cannot be a bad thing.

Thanks once again to Empire for the news and, I agree, The Ladykillers and Intolerable Cruely ARE underrated!
