This year’s Oscar nominations have just been announced by Anne Hathaway and A Serious Man is up for two awards! Along with the predictable nod for Best Original Screenplay the movie is also up for the big one- Best Picture!
No Best Actor nom for Michael Stuhlbarg though. Real shame!

Damn right that they got a best picture nom! Can’t wait for the DVD release, as with all there films, they get better and better on repeat viewings (yes, even Ladykillers..)

Stephen,
I completely agree with you on The Ladykillers. It has some incredible lines in it, mostly from Hanks.
I still think they kinda cheapened the whole movie with the Marlon Wayans character though.

Hey Paul
yeah I think you are right about Wayans, I did enjoy the character for the most part but it did get too much towards the end. What I do think is great about the film is how they got that performance out of Hanks, I doubt any other director/s could convince him to be so against type! Also I think the the mixing of gangster rap with with old time gospel music was genius! I still listen to those Nappy Roots tunes!

Yes! The soundtrack is almost as awesome as O Bro’s… Almost.
Hanks in The Ladykillers and Clooney in O Bro are almost the same character. They think they’re cleverer than the are and come out with THE most amazing sentences! Love it!
I was asked by a friend once if it was ok to watch with his family and I immediately said yes, completely forgetting about all of Wayan’s swearing. He saw the funny side… Thankfully.
You’ve inspired me to watch it again.
Paul.

I don’t understand why so many people hate The Ladykillers (and Intolerable Cruelty). It’s not their best but it’s very funny. And I LOVE the gospel music in it. Irma P. Hall is fantastic. I think it’s far better than Burn After Reading.
