Just a very quick note to let you know that I’ve updated the Burn After Reading Mulitmedia page with some images I grabbed from the recently released trailer. Why not pop over and take a peek. It’s interesting to compare both versions of the movie’s logo – one from the apple.com trailer page and the other from the trailer itself. I know which I prefer- the Top Secret folder style from the trailer.

I’m getting VERY excited about this movie now.

The keen-eyed amongst you might also notice one or two other minor changes to the site, such as the re-naming of the “On DVD” section to “At Home” to more accurately reflect the fact that DVD is no longer the sole choice of the home cinema connoisseur. I will be working on that particular section in the coming weeks including a review of the beautiful Blu-ray version of No Country For Old Men.

Empire has listed what it conisders to be the all time top 10 movie bounty hunters and in amongst that elite number are two, yes TWO miscreants from the canon of the Coen brothers. Leonard Smalls (Randall “Tex” Cobb) from Raising Arizona makes it in at number five and right at the top of the tree at number one is none other than Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem) from No Country For Old Men. Now I’m not sure Chigurh is actually a bounty hunter per se, he’s more of a hired gun/assassin if you ask me…

Top 10 Movie Bounty Hunters.

Any, WOW, what a thing of beauty it is! Call me mad but I think I’d buy this for the cover alone. Here it is, in all its beauty…

I love where they’ve positioned Jesus considering he has such a small part.  Nice to see so much effort has been put into it. Beautiful.

No artwork for the mysterious “bowling ball” packaging yet however.

Blu-ray movie sales have now hit the 11 million mark in the US since the format launced in 2006. According to the Redhill Group, in a report written for Home Media Magazine, sales have quadrupled since this time last year and sales for last month indicate that more titles have been sold in the first five months of this year than the entire of last.

Anyway, the upshot of this is that three movies stand head and shoulders above the rest in terms of sales. Oscar winning No Country For Old Men, I Am Legend and 3:10 to Yuma are the three best selling Blu-ray titles accounting for between 8-10% of total Blu-ray purchases.

Universal have announced the bonus features that will appear on the Big Lebowski 10th Anniversary Edition DVD released on 9th September.

Well I suppose there’s possibly enough to justify another purchase…

Disc 1: Main Feature

  • 2.35:1 Anamorphic Widescreen
  • English and French DD5.1 Surround
  • Spanish DD2.0 Surround
  • English SDH, French and Spanish subtitles
  • Introduction by Mortimer Young
  • Jeff Bridges Photograph
  • The Dude’s Life: Strikes and Gutters…Up’s and Downs…The Dude Abides
  • Production Notes
  • Theatrical Trailer

Disc 2: Extra Features

  • The Making of The Big Lebowski
  • The Lebowski Fest: An Achiever’s Story
  • Flying Carpets and Bowling Pin Dreams: The Dream Sequences of the Dude
  • Interactive Map
  • Jeff Bridges Photo Book
  • Photo Gallery

Of this little lot the previous release, The Collector’s Edition, contained only the making of doc, production notes, crazy Mortimer Young intro and the Jeff Bridges photography. Though the lengths of the new featurettes are not known they may offer enough of an incentive for big fans to buy the new release.

What do you think? Is this worth it? Will you be getting it? Should the studios knock it off with the countless “special editions” only to release a “specialer” edition? Personally I’d have liked to have seen some input from the Coen brothers to guarantee my purchase. Just a retrospective interview would have done, we’re beyond hoping for commentary tracks now. Having said that I would much prefer that they kept themselves busy knocking out movies at the rate they have been lately than using up that time fussing with DVD re-releases.

Just a quick note to say that the DVD of No Country For Old Men has been released in the UK today. It contains the exact same features as the R1 release though, being in the PAL format it has a better picture resolution (576p) than the NTSC (480p). Also if you buy it from Play.com you will get the below exclusive art cards. It’s selling online for the super cheap price of around £12 which, for an Oscar winning movie, ain’t half bad. Happy shopping.

No word yet on a UK Blu-ray release.
