Universal have announced the bonus features that will appear on the Big Lebowski 10th Anniversary Edition DVD released on 9th September.

Well I suppose there’s possibly enough to justify another purchase…

Disc 1: Main Feature

  • 2.35:1 Anamorphic Widescreen
  • English and French DD5.1 Surround
  • Spanish DD2.0 Surround
  • English SDH, French and Spanish subtitles
  • Introduction by Mortimer Young
  • Jeff Bridges Photograph
  • The Dude’s Life: Strikes and Gutters…Up’s and Downs…The Dude Abides
  • Production Notes
  • Theatrical Trailer

Disc 2: Extra Features

  • The Making of The Big Lebowski
  • The Lebowski Fest: An Achiever’s Story
  • Flying Carpets and Bowling Pin Dreams: The Dream Sequences of the Dude
  • Interactive Map
  • Jeff Bridges Photo Book
  • Photo Gallery

Of this little lot the previous release, The Collector’s Edition, contained only the making of doc, production notes, crazy Mortimer Young intro and the Jeff Bridges photography. Though the lengths of the new featurettes are not known they may offer enough of an incentive for big fans to buy the new release.

What do you think? Is this worth it? Will you be getting it? Should the studios knock it off with the countless “special editions” only to release a “specialer” edition? Personally I’d have liked to have seen some input from the Coen brothers to guarantee my purchase. Just a retrospective interview would have done, we’re beyond hoping for commentary tracks now. Having said that I would much prefer that they kept themselves busy knocking out movies at the rate they have been lately than using up that time fussing with DVD re-releases.
