The LA Times and JoBlo have the same story, it seems Ethan is going it alone. He and his wife, editor Tricia Cooke, have penned what is billed as a “lesbian, road-trip, action, sex comedy” called Drive-Away Dykes to be directed by Allison Anders. I’ll hand over to The LA Times for the synopsis…

“When Marion, a skirt-chasing party girl, gets kicked out after her cop girlfriend finds her in bed with another woman, she convinces her buttoned-down friend Jamie to let her come along on a get-away-for-a-few-days drive-away car assignment from Philadelphia to Miami. Packed along for the ride are Jamie’s crush on Marion, Marion’s unrelenting desire to cruise every lesbian bar on the eastern seaboard, and — since this is Coen territory — a severed head in a hatbox, a mystery briefcase full of plaster phalluses, a mélange of angry pursuers, an evil senator, a bitter ex-girlfriend and loads of hot boyless sex.”

Coen says, “The sensibility is exploitive but innocent. We were both taken with the title and, as with old exploitation films, it all derived from that. We figured, ‘All right, what kind of movie has this title?’ “

JoBlo questions if this could be the greatest movie ever and mentions an unofficial website which appears not to work anymore. Perhaps it has been taken down but which apparently featured story boards and character information. If anyone managed to see/save any of this info I’d love to hear about it.

Thanks to Bunnie and Matthew for pointing these links out.

Another image from the forthcoming No Country For Old Men has emerged. Via Carter Burwell’s website comes THIS bizarre, little image of Javier Bardem as the nefarious, Chigurh. This also doubles as a wee news snippet, Burwell is currenlty writing the score for the film and it is due to begin recording in February. Sweet!

Apparenlty Joel Coen and his wife Frances McDormand escaped a fire on Wednesday!!! This from IMDB news… “Actor Jake Gyllenhaal and his sister Maggie Gyllenhaal escaped without injury after being caught up in a fire early on Wednesday at a California inn. The two were staying at Manka’s Inverness Lodge in Marin County for Christmas when a tree fell on the structure, sparking the fire. According to Marin County Fire Department Battlion Chief Mike Giannini, “From my perspective, it looks like a total loss of the main lodge and the restaurant.” Neighbor Judy Prokupek, who witnessed the devastation, said guests were seen running out of the inn at around 2:43 am, adding, “They weren’t dressed to come out. It was early.” Chef and co-owner Daniel Delong said the Brokeback Mountain star assisted with the recovery efforts saying, “Jake was helping me pull things out of the fire.” Other well-known guests at the inn were Fargo star Frances McDormand and her husband Joel Coen. No injuries were reported.” Wonder if it would have been so widely reported had the young and pretty Gyllenhaals not been there… Thanks to Mark for the nod.
